Captured Movements
Verdict: Visual art from Fringe performances
Dublin 05 – La Catedral – 18 & 25 Sept, 2 Oct – 15.00 (18.00)
Captured Movements is an art exhibition devoted to the performers of this year’s Fringe. Nine separate artists picked various Fringe performers and saw their shows and rehearsals, and recorded them in their own individual styles.
New works were added to the exhibition as the festival progressed and they filled the walls of this new converted warehouse space in Dublin’s Liberties area by the last exhibition on October 2. The works are a mixture of drawings, photographs and one series of video clips.
Most artists focused on the movement and actions of performers, often with multiple images of the same show. They range from Jeanne Merer’s strong line-based drawings to Raoul Sciannella’s startling video impressions. The rawness of this former industrial space is used well, with some pictures hidden in nooks and crannies and Sciannella’s video viewed through a peephole in a door.
