Gillian In Cannes

Gorgeous actress Gillian MacGregor hits Cannes 2006

by Gillian MacGregor

Brian Barnes’s Hard Case premiered at Cannes 06 featuring Gillian MacGregor and Tom Wontner.

I arrived in Cannes on the second day of the festival with my lovely friend Tom Wontner to promote the new film Hard Case. After a short cab ride to our lodgings and a slick of war paint (me, obviously, not Tom,) we were ready to rock. Off we went to the Century Marquis where we danced up a storm with Damien Lewis - and a nameless famous actor was extremely rude to me. Despite being in black tie and just coming from his own premiere, he still looked as if he needed a good wash. (Note to self: when famous, be nice. And wash.)

Lovely Jacqueline Oceane arrived the next day and we got dolled-up in formal dresses for the Red Road premiere. I may be biased because I'm Scottish - I absolutely loved it. But I was shocked by the graphic sex scene – it was great, but those actors had to be brave. I cried at the end of the film - not the best situation when you're dressed to the nines and desperately trying to stop your mascara running. I also had the pleasure of having the film's star, Tony Curran, recite Rabbie Burns to me in the middle of the street after a dram at the Petit Majestic.

The X-Men III premiere. In the Lumiere, they project who's arriving on the red carpet. So we had a great laugh taking the mick out of the posers and pouters. (Another note to self: when famous, don't be a pretentious a#!*.)

Apart from red carpet antics, most of the visit was promoting my films in the Short Film Corner. There were over 8,000 titles on the 2006 database and if you don't get yours exposed, it will disappear. We'd done a lot of marketing before we went, so loads of people were familiar with the film – which made things a lot easier There were some great shorts including, Film Noir, the British short film in the competition. There were some awful ones too.

Six days of no sleep, constant networking, promotion - and some damn good parties. Bring on Cannes 2007.

END
