Action Man
My Sindy’s boyfriend wasn’t Action Man
Or Ken like my friend Harriet’s Barbie’s Man
And Claire and Joy’s dolls turned out lesbian
In lots of positions I’m not even sure you can.
My Sindy thought all that was very rude
And sniffed when my friends made their dollies crude.
Thing is, my brother (he’s an engineer)
Played with Lego, not with action gear
So Sindy had no option when I informed her
That her new boyfriend was a red transformer
Though he could flip between a robot and a plane
I think I rather treated him with distain.
He didn’t have an army uniform
Or an inexplicable bulge around his groin
He had and arm which turned into a propeller
But looking back she couldn’t have done better
Because now I’m older I’d really like a guy
Who could turn into a jet plane and fly.

Pat’s Poem
I’d really like a cat called Pat
So when I said his name
To people who came
They’d have to show affection
In Pat the Cat’s direction.
I like poems that rhyme
So that I keep time
Like the rhythm in a song
But they’re harder to write than they look.
