Martin Reynolds is Press & Marketing Manager at the official Press Office, and received this year's Fringe Report Award 2004 - Best Press Officer. Owen O'Leary is Press & Marketing Officer.
KEY POINTS - PRESS & MARKETING
Kate Copstick, Martin Reynolds and Owen O'Leary included key topics from the official publication 'How to Sell a Show on the Fringe' eg:
MARKETING
(FR note - Marketing is the element of publicity that is paid for - either for the free services of the official Press & Marketing Office via the registration fee; or direct costs such as printing leaflets, photographs, buying advertising)
Official - How the Fringe is marketed
You - How you should market your show: target audience, your message, evaluation
Copywriting - Advice
Print and Distribution - Guidance
Advertising and Promotions
PUBLIC RELATIONS (PR)
(FR note - Public Relations (PR) is the element of publicity that is free in itself - eg newspaper, online & broadcast reviews, articles, interviews. Free articles and features are also known as 'editorial')
Press Release - Content, format, who to send it to and when
Press Pack - Good & bad photos, audio/video, cast lists
Press During Festival - What the Fringe Press Office does, how to
attract news/diary coverage, how to arrange a photocall
Reviews - Will I get one and if so, how/why?
Awards - Am I eligible?
Practicalities - How you know if you've got press in or a review printed, the press pass & comps on the door, what if you're giving away too many comps?
