Stranded
Verdict: Dance - raw speed, emotive intensity
Stranded delivers a pulsing contest of raw speed, boundless energy and emotive intensity. It delves into the flux underpinning shared human experience. Dynamic, polished choreography, set to a strong and varied soundtrack, allows the two male and two female dancers to explore the ever-shifting, sometimes uncomfortable complexity of relationships between people, the self, and the environment.
A simple setting enables plenty of focus on the narrative of people subject to the laws of nature and their energetic interplay. The minimal distance between performer and spectator in the intimate venue heightens the sensory impact. The sheer athletic endeavour of this highly physical performance uses the universal language of loss and loneliness to reveal the darker sides of love and pain.
The human emotional and individual battle to co-exist defines this exhilarating piece. Dancers Laura Kelly (above left), Louis Nelhams, Barney Ridgewell, Laura Warriner (above right), choreographed by Pure Dance strive to push the limits of gravity as an analogy for the eternal relationship with survival.
