Cap-a-Pie - Best Venue - Fringe Report Award 2007

Citation: 'The award reflects the vision and hard work of Gordon Poad, Mark Labrow and others in the creation and development of Theatre Cap a Pie, as a theatre company and as a venue. Their work with young people and the community is an inspiration to everyone involved in theatre. Their transformation of Dipton's old ballroom, with holes in the roof and pigeons, into a lively venue producing Waiting For Godot with a cast of primary schoolchildren demonstrates what can be done with open eyes. Cap a Pie is bringing a new audience to theatre, and its possibilities to new generations'

Presented at Fringe Report Awards ceremony 2008, The Arts Theatre, London on Monday 25 February 08 by Emma Taylor & John Park

Citation: 'The award celebrates Holly Penfield and the reckless delight she brings to international cabaret as bill-topping singer, and being Holly Penfield. Her gorgeous voice releases the joyfulness of I've Got A Lot of Living To Do, and makes I Want To Be Evil very dirty indeed. She is able to find the emotional and intellectual centre of pretty much any song and give it a fabulous outing, in perfect time and note, placing it gracefully into the hearts of her audience. And if a song has sex, she'll find it. Holly Penfield's All That Jazz is the definitive version'

Molly Malene Stensgaard - Best Film Editor - One To One - Fringe Report Award 2007

Award accepted on behalf of Molly Malene Stensgaard by the Cultural Attaché, Royal Danish Embassy, London

Citation: "The award reflects Molly Malene Stensgaard's inspired editing of Zentropa's social realism epic One To One. 'One To One sparkles with Molly Malene Stensgaard's lively editing. She cuts it exactly to the mood - moving fast where needed, and letting the pace slow to match impact and thought. Her opening sequence over the titles is a quiet delight. Her concluding sequence is quite brilliant, using a method that contrasts with the main film. The technique of this segment suits precisely the unexpected story it tells - and its dissolving of the present into what must inevitably become the future'"

Abi Titmuss - Best West End Debut - Two-Way Mirror - Fringe Report Award 2007

(presented at Leicester Square Theatre London on Monday 9 February 2009)

Citation: 'Abi Titmuss could have chosen any celebrity vehicle for her first West End appearance. Instead she was cast with co-star Jay Benedict in a couplet of immensely demanding one-act plays - total immersion in the deep-end of serious acting. Abi Titmuss delivered two remarkable performances rich in emotional and intellectual articulation, finding the depth, mood and pace of Arthur Miller's scripts, in a moving first outing of what may become a powerful theatrical talent.'

Martin Walker - Best Editor - Scotsgay - Fringe Report Award 2007

Citation: 'The award reflects Martin Walker's lively and imaginative editing of Scotsgay, Scotland's leading gay, lesbian and bisexual, bi-monthly alternating Light and Heavy format magazine and website. It recognises the inspired editorial skills Martin Walker brings to Scotsgay, and in particular his superb coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe as editor and writer - providing a fresh, erudite, lively and analytical voice in theatrical reviewing, appealing to, and read by, a universal audience'

Fringe Report Award 2007 - Arnold Wesker - Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre, Prose, Poetry

Citation: "The award reflects Sir Arnold Wesker's astonishing achievements as an artist in playwriting and the written word. The range of his work has so far encompassed the stage, TV, short stories, his recent novel, poetry and journalism over - to date - a 50-year writing career. From 'The Kitchen' (1957) and 'The Wesker Trilogy' to recent works including 'Break, My Heart' and 'Longitude' (2002) his theatrical writing has re-aligned the path of theatre in the UK and throughout the world"

Sir Arnold Wesker's acceptance speech transcript:

(The award includes a bottle of champagne):

'That's one award that won't stay on the mantle shelf for long. (laughter)

'If I really have achieved something over a lifetime I have only one person to thank, and that's the person who's stood by me throughout that lifetime through all the personal and professional vicissitudes. My wife Dusty. (applause)

'When I was first told that I was going to receive this award from the Fringe Report I thought - "But I'm not - am I - a fringe writer?" (laughter) I thought I was a mainstream writer. (laughter).

'And then I looked back, thought back over my career. Well, the first five plays were done by the Royal Court - and that's kind of fringe I suppose. (laughter)

'And I've only ever had two premieres in the National Theatre and that was in the Cottesloe. And the Cottesloe is the fringe of the National Theatre. (laughter)

'And I've only ever had one commercial success in the West End - a play called Chips With Everything. And that was because they thought it was a comedy about the Air Force. (laughter)

'And the current requests for rights have come from fringe groups - the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles, Northern Broadsides (UK) - is that considered fringe?

'So I thought - well - why am I here? There's only one way I can interpret the award and that is recognition of the old by the young. And so my second thanks go to you. The young.' (applause)

In a sly dig at the National Theatre's august director Nicholas Hytner, Sir Arnold Wesker added later ''Nick Hytner has turned down everything I've offered him. And I hear he's accepted another five years directorship at the National Theatre. Which means I remain on the fringe for another five years!'

Bo Wilson - Best Reporter - Fringe Report Award 2007

Citation: 'The award reflects Bo Wilson's sharp, perceptive and intrepid reporting for the Evening Standard. At times, from her byline, Bo Wilson seems to be writing the Standard single-handedly, and whether working under-cover at Wimbledon, or timing bus routes across London, she reports factually, often with a trace of humour, always with a fine writing style in a fresh and lively written voice. The award also recognises Bo Wilson's deft work as a comedy actress on the London and Edinburgh fringe'

Kevin Wilson - Best PR - West End - Fringe Report Award 2007

Citation: 'The award recognises Kevin Wilson's outstanding talent in PR particularly in relation to London's West End. It reflects the range and depth of his work which in 2006 included promoting the legendary Eartha Kitt, the revival of The Rocky Horror Show, Abi Titmuss's West End debut in Arthur Miller's Two-Way Mirror, and the re-launch of the Arts Theatre in Covent Garden, in addition to many other events and shows. It recognises Kevin Wilson's stylishness and hard work, great personal thoughtfulness and consideration, and his warm and friendly approach to clients, media and the public'

Presented 25 June 07 at Fringe Report office, London
