The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre
Verdict: Sharp, funny comedy
After the opening 21st Century Sox theme, the Socks' first song I'm A Sock introduces the show, the accents, and what to expect for the hour ahead.
Some Halloween / Hallo Ian confusion between the pair means that the promised All Hallows Eve ('Hallo Steve?') play never happens, but after some banter on Edinburgh's foibles, there are some sharply accurate lines in the song Have A Flyer!
The extended knock-knock gags are perhaps too extended in the warm room. Some Shakespearian pieces fare better, and in the song Did You Evah!, any prize for the Fringe's most amusing rhyme would need at the very least to shortlist the lovely Julius Caesar / Bacardi Breezer.
It's good to end on a song, which seems to be what the Socks do best, although their foray into theatre, via playing many key parts in Shakespeare, does live up.
Being able to see, between the Socks, the hat of their puppeteer Kev F Sutherland doesn't help the illusion, but he does always stay in character - both, with the Socks having very different personalities.
Cast Credits: Kev F Sutherland.
