Sit

Verdict: Knicker-wettingly funny

Edinburgh 06 - Pleasance Courtyard 15-28 August 06 - 16:15 (1:15)

www.tricicle.com

Three cavemen blink in a spotlight. One finds a cricket chirping in his hair and offers it round. The other two scratch and eat the bugs they find on their bodies. The one that's left out sits on a log. It's the birth of the chair, and he's the first Chairwood descendant.

The show is a quick whiz through the Chairwoods' history of the chair. There are black and white films featuring entertainment with chairs; there is mime, and slapstick.

Jacques Tati, the Marx Brothers, and the silent movie years are clear influences. The comedy and performance are slick, and comic timing is expert. It is excruciatingly funny, in the best sense. A waiting-room scene is masterful - and Sit's chair-herding sketch is knicker-wettingly funny.
