Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf

Verdict: Funny with moving moments

Edinburgh 06 - Baby Belly - 6-27 August 06 - 19:45 (1:00)

www.tobyhadoke.com

Toby Hadoke appears on stage complete with Tom-Baker-as-Doctor-Who-style hat, coat, and scarf. He explains that while he’s a big fan, he is actually married and has two sons. It’s not his whole life.

Some gags are probably for devoted fans, but there are plenty for the casual watcher, and enough topical references - from Hollyoaks to Girls Aloud - for everyone else. To be fair, the show's title is going to put off those who don’t care about the Doctor.

Hidden among the comedy, Hadoke has some valid points - for example, that TV does influence. He defends Doctor Who against football and Star Trek, arguing that along the way he was learning history and about the environment. Diary moments use dramatic music – from the death of Patrick Troughton to Cyberman impressions at student parties.

Toby Hadoke says that 6 years ago he had to throw out his moth-eaten, teenage-self-knitted Doctor Who scarf. 'Time to stop hoping, believing it'll come back.' But it did.

Other material includes Billie Piper, Christopher Eccleston, Kate Lawler and Celebrity Wrestling, the BNP, and Germans kidnapping Dr W. Toby Hadoke is an encyclopaedia of Doctor Who, with hopes that his son will follow his enthusiasm - the show is funny with moving moments.
