Sir Pat Baxter - My Life Onscreen

Verdict: Character comedy

London - Canal Café Theatre - 15 Jan 05 (1 hr)

Sir Pat Baxter, a 94-year-old movie actor, reminisces about his long career. It’s a vehicle for performer Julian Dutton to show off his considerable talents as an impressionist, as Sir Pat recalls past friendships with famous actors.

Julian Dutton is clearly an afficionado of old film, and those who will enjoy this show most will be those who share that interest. Some of the humour was lost on tonight’s audience.

But there are many crowd-pleasing moments - such as Robert de Niro's grandfather in a silent version of Taxi Driver.

Live music before the show - in keeping with the old-time picture-show theme – is performed by Paul Wilmott and Dustin Harwood.

Julian Dutton brings alive a lost world and creates a sympathetic character. He takes the audience on an enjoyable and touching journey.

Credits: Performer, Production Design, Slideshow Creation – Julian Dutton. Writers – Julian Dutton with additional material by Alan Francis. Musicians – Paul Wilmott, Dustin Harwood. Technical Operator – Venue Staff. Venue: Artistic Director – Emma Taylor. Acting Artistic Director – Louis Brownhill. Technical Director – Ross McGivern. The Bridge House Manager – Tracy Allum
