Matt Dyktinski
in
Pole Dancer
Verdict: Sharply observed comedy
Matt Dyktinski delivers an hour of deft stand-up and character-comedy, in a set that's joined loosely together by his dreadful parents.
Quite what an awful pair they might be emerges in jokes, narrative, and sly glances from an easy contender - judging from the rapt attention Matt Dyktinski gets from women in the audience - for this Edinburgh's sexiest man. Tall, dark-haired, recklessly good-looking, he's funny and endearing. But first hear him out on wanking with his girl-friend's shampoo.
Matt Dyktinski's quirky parents (he might not like them, but they sound fun) get the blame for his often unconventional approach to sex. There's a focus on the post-coital cleaning-up. There's being blown by one's aunty. There's his mum's unusual cure for Aids.
Dad Miroslav, born 1935 in Poland, and mum Judith Ann, born 1944 in Blackpool are celebrated in a witty Polish-George-Formby style song at the start. The comedy veers sharply into politics with a look at the war policies of President Bush. There's horse-racing, masturbation, and bowel functions; middle-aged women dancing in underwear are remembered. And the Son Of God features in a fabulous sketch: Jesus's Diary - one of the show's highlights.
Matt Dyktinski's set works on the quality of the material - it's constantly engaging, and sharply observed - a delight. The plus-point is his warm and friendly style - which lets him get away with a lot. Just don't tell his parents.
