The Lost Word

Verdict: Lots of fun

London - Canal Café - Sep/Oct 03

Canal Café Theatre

The Lost Word is improvisation from a talented cast of 4 plus an impish pianist. It feeds off audience suggestions - to the extent of joining the actors on stage - and is broken into game-like segments, making an entertaining hour of spontaneous theatre.

Three talented blokes (Geoff Aymer, Stuart Banham, James Marson) are effortlessly upstaged by the arch of an eyebrow or winsome grimace from pretty Lorna Watson - but don't seem to mind. They're a fine cast, individually excellent; and together a gifted ensemble.

Pianist Sam Fluskey delivers musical brilliance, showing fine creativity apt to each genre, and witty compositional inspiration. Jake Wiltshire lights the action with intuitive 3-dimensionality, lyrically underpinning the performances.

From the opening Mexican Wave, through games such as Die!, Alphabet, He Said / She Said, Chain Murder, Blues Song, NewsCast, Should Have Said, Genre Roller Coaster, The Sentences Game, American Musical, to the closing ultimate audience participation event Freeze, it's a fast and expert demonstration of acting - and delightful entertainment. Lots of fun.

Credits (alpha order): Geoff Aymer, Stuart Banham, James Marson, Lorna Watson. Director - James Marson. Musical Director / Pianist - Sam Fluskey. Technical Director - Jacob 'Jake' Wiltshire.
