Mirror Mirror

(2.5 minute short film)

Verdict: Sharp fragment of intriguing suspense

(Mirror Mirror is a trailer for a science fiction film that doesn't exist.)

A man takes off his sunglasses, another is strangled - naked - and sucked through a wall. 'Won't leave you alone at all', flashes a graphic. Smoke is swallowed up into the reflection of a shopping mall. There are screams, and moody music.

'Starring Merryn Owen / Louise Kane / Mary Ann Scott' 'Let me out!' 'What do you want?' The image disappears into a mirror - we're surrounded by bleached white faces. 'A film by Yank and Kraut' 'Mirror Mirror - starring ...' The credits roll.

Mirror Mirror's a remarkable piece of film. It's excellently shot (by Tom Palliser and Sharon Soor), and edited with electrifying precision (by Dettmer Forsyth-Graffam). There's a strong cast delivering necessarily brief, but taut and effective, performances.

Mirror Mirror has a chilling feel, and the ideas glimpsed in this collage create an excellent shiver. A sharp fragment of intriguing suspense.
