Project 55

London venues Autumn / Winter 2002

(work in progress)

Kirk and Messingham's new show Project 55 continues its interesting run of London venues in autumn/winter 02. It's one to watch out for, in development and en route for Edinburgh 03.

Project 55's the brainwashing / surveillance operation of a comically inept British Government. It's George Orwell's 1984 with exceptionally clumsy agents. Though if real spies are anything like ex-M15 man David Shayler says, we're not talking fiction.

Snoop with the spooks on the residents of Hemel Hempsted as they live their (outrageously sexually perverted) lives. Meet amdram thespian Michael Shelbrooke's Wife (Ella Kenion) seducing novice James (Simon Messingham) with some of the filthiest lines ever caught by concealed microphones; and Michael Shelbrooke (Alex Kirk) himself, as a Nero you're unlikely to forget.

The talented cast presents a streetful of decadent households, from the interbred Fitzmorrises, who give new meaning to brotherly love, to a household where Dad's a stand-up who talks to his family through his microphone, and can't tell jokes.

Voiceovers by Jonathan Rigby. Written by Kirk and Messingham. Director Simon Messingham. Technicals at preview by Rupert Lally.
